Hi everyone! *Blushes and clears throat*.
I have been a member of the Mount Isa community since 1992 and I have to say the opportunity to do many things here that wouldn’t be possible in the big cities is still available.
Sports, employment and lifestyle opportunities are among the best for our young adults who are willing to use initiative and make an effort.
My two daughters were born and raised in Mount Isa, attended school here and one is now gainfully employed in town.
Many of you may know I published and released a fantasy novel here last year called The Halfling. Since then I have published another book. It’s an anthology called A Confabulated Compendium of Anecdotes. The genre is Steampunk. Basically that means the stories are a mash of 1800s industrial style entwined with elements of futuristic technology in an alternate history.
I am an ambassador for the Pencils Community whose aim is to re-bundle discarded pencils and donate them to school and organisations in need across Australia and the world.
One pencil can change a life. *Nods head* It’s true! Imagine being given the opportunity to write or learn math when there wasn’t one before. It reminds me of a motto I keep close to my heart.
It goes like this, “Lift yourself out of the misery of being average”.
I don’t know who said it originally but it has stuck with me for a long time.
This year has proven to be an exciting one already. Starting with a new job and ending with a wedding. Yes, my wedding! No longer a bridesmaid. *Claps hands like a kid in at Max Brenner’s Chocolate shop*
The lucky guy is a miner who has lived in Mount Isa for 26 years.
I am currently finishing my Bachelor of Arts through open learning at Griffith University in Brisbane. This has been a rewarding experience and I recommend this option to anyone who is considering studying and working locally.
If you would like to contact me regarding a story, I’d love to hear from you.
