Pink Bitz have organised the “Colours for Cancer” fun run at Lake Moondarra for the last three years with most of the money raised donated to cancer laboratories to help with breakthrough cancer research.
In 2017 Pink Bitz raised $8700 and decided that some of the money should be spent within the community.
Pink Bitz founders Emma Harman and Rebekah Moore collaborated with Cancer House, which offers an open environment and safe place for people affected by cancer.
The idea they came up with was a new couch.
President of the Cancer House Linda Lawrenson said their old couch was falling apart.
“It was old and needed loving attention which we couldn’t provide,” Ms Lawrenson said.
Ms Harman said the couch was an important element to the wellbeing of people at the House.
“Cancer is emotive, people respond emotionally. I understand that. So we approached Cancer House to see what they needed, it means family members or friends could have a safe and comfortable place to just be,” Ms Harman said.
“I ordered the couch at Harvey Norman who happily gave it to us at a well-reduced price.”
The custom-made couch was a first for Harvey Norman’s manufacturer who had never made a couch the colour pink before.
Ms Harman reluctantly added she was unable to organise the Colours for Cancer fun run this year and is now looking to pass the baton on.
