KAP gets facts wrong on crocodiles
On the Sunday after the state election, I gave a radio interview with ABC North West.

In the interview I talked about how the Katter Australian Party “banged” on about how a person is torn to pieces by a crocodile every three months in North Queensland.
I stated that this infuriated me as the statistics they were quoting were grossly incorrect.
This part was actually cut from the interview.
Four days later, there was an article that appeared on the ABC North West’s Facebook page questioning where the KAP were getting their stats over the crocodile fatalities.
Tragically we’ve had three fatalities in three years.
In the last 32 years, we’ve had 33 attacks by crocodiles with 11 of those fatal.
This lack of appropriate investigation into crocodile attacks statistics could do tremendous damage to tourism in the North, especially as one of the KAP’s interviews ended up going all over the world.
Once a week, a women is killed in Australia from Domestic Violence and one in three women will be the victim of domestic violence in her life time.
Each year, DV Connect Crisis Support Queensland receives over 55,000 incoming calls relating to domestic violence, family violence and sexual assault.
During the period 2006 –2012 there was an average of 23 deaths a year in Queensland linked to domestic and family violence.
These figures are terrifying and this year Mount Isa is getting a special police officer, just to deal with and train on domestic violence issues.
Imagine how powerful it would be if a man who held a state or federal seat, “banged” on about these domestic violence stats.
As for the crocs, for many years, there has been a strong concern that unqualified government officials were conducting ineffective investigations into crocodile numbers in the North.
I believe a state or federal inquiry into crocodile numbers could help resolve this matter and residents of North Queensland should be given clear and transparent information on how the inquiry will be conducted and the outcomes.

It’s not just about the Katters
I imagine most people in the readership of the North West Star think that I am obsessed with politics and the Katters.
Nothing could be further from the truth.
While I have a healthy interest in getting rid of horrible, self-serving politicians, I have many other subjects I would like to raise.
As long as the Katters don't say anything too silly, I will not mention that Tweedle Dum and Tweedle Dummer Duo in 2018.
I will, if the Most Glorious Editor in the History of Non-Fake News permits me, submit the occasional thought on physics, chemistry, medicine, history, astronomy, astrology, sociology, logic, grammar . . . etc.
While never claiming I am 100% right.
I am looking forward to 2018.
