While he's not setting any goals of where he wants to finish in the NSW Amateur, Armstrong said he would give it a "red-hot crack" at the Gungahlin Lakes and Royal Canberra golf courses this week.

He'll tee off at Gungahlin on Monday morning before switching to Royal Canberra on Tuesday.

Then the field will be cut to just 32, with elimination match play at Royal Canberra to decide the eventual winner on Friday.

Armstrong's fully recovered from his knee injury, having finished tied-19th at the Australian Master of the Amateurs at Royal Melbourne two weeks ago and then tied-14th after the stroke-play rounds at the Australian Amateur in Perth.

"It's good, I get to sleep in my own bed for a tournament, which feels pretty good. It's a good change and I'm looking forward to it," he said.

"I don't really have a result goal for this week, I'm just trying to feel as though I'm executing my routines and really clear and precise with my targets.

"I feel as though if I execute that pretty well I'll be giving it a red-hot crack. Just got to let it happen."

After the NSW Amateur, Armstrong will have a three- or four-week break before he plays the Riversdale Cup in Melbourne in March.

While he's played "quite a bit" at both Gungahlin and Royal, he didn't think he had that much of an advantage over the interstate competitors.

"Nowadays a lot of players are really good at adapting to different golf courses - course mapping and preparation get better by a lot of the players - so I'm not sure you'd really call it an advantage these days," Armstrong said.

"I might have a couple of things that I might have a little bit over some of the other guys, but it's about how you play on the day as well."
