Mount Isa Mayor Joyce McCulloch confirmed the council would house the hall of fame at Outback at Isa.
“The Isa Rodeo Hall of Fame will be an important year-round tourism attraction for Mount Isa which celebrates our world-class event,” she said.
Mount Isa Rotary Rodeo Inc chair Darren Campi said the first inductions into the hall of fame would be made during the rodeo with the help of $130,000 from the federal government’s Building Better Regions Fund and $60,000 each from Mount Isa Mines and the rodeo itself.
“A Hall of Fame project is the perfect tribute to our amazing event for its 60th anniversary year,” Mr Campi said.
“We are looking forward to celebrating the amazing competitors and stock who have competed at Kalkadoon Park and Buchanan Park.”
Glencore’s Maryann Wipaki said they were proud to be naming rights sponsor of the rodeo.
“The preservation of rodeo history is important, supporting the Isa Rodeo Hall of Fame helps achieve this,” Ms Wipaki said.
