The Mount Isa City Council Library officially opened the programming room downstairs on Saturday, February 3.
After nearly two years of planning and designing the final touches were achieved with an upgrade to the air conditioning and grids on the doors last month.
Library Coordinator Astrid Hancock said the room will get a lot of use with various programs already booking in.
“Already we have had the Tech Savvy group for seniors in here,” Ms Hancock said.
The over 65 group learned how to use laptops, ipads and smartphones along with the importance of cyber safety.
“We still have a few spots available if anyone is interested,” she said.
Another club to use the room this year will be the coding and robotics group.
The members are primary school age students and will learn how to program and use different coding languages.
“We have an Ezrobot for each laptop,” Ms Hancock said.
The Ezrobot is plugged into the laptop to help users learn to how to code.
The programming room located downstairs caters for those who require less distractions and has access to wifi.
Ms Hancock said negotiations were in progress with a local community group to provide free homework classes.
“Hopefully we will know more about that endeavour soon,” Ms Hancock said.
Refreshment facilities such as tea and coffee are also in the room.
