Mayor Greg Campbell said council was excited to host the Board and were looking forward to giving them a warm Cloncurry welcome.
“We extended an invitation believing it would be a great opportunity for the Board to visit Cloncurry as much of the product that is shipped through the Port of Townsville originates from our Shire,” Cr Campbell said.
“The Board is committed to holding three meetings outside of Townsville each year in a bid to better understand key stakeholders and the supply chain network.”
Cr Campbell said Cloncurry was the pillar of the cattle, mining and transport industries, helping drive the Queensland economy.
Renita Garard, Chair of the Port of Townsville said throughout their history Cloncurry had been a significant contributor to trade through the Port.
“With new mining projects and growing demand for agricultural produce, the region will continue to play a vital role in the Port’s future,” Ms Garard said,
The Port of Townsville executive team will also have a town tour and a visit to MMG’s Dugald River zinc project while in the region.
