Mr Mitchell is the Regional Director of TAFE Queensland North Region and he is also a member of the Mount Isa Running and Triathlon Club, better known as the IsaRATs.
“I have had a life-long involvement in running, having been a competitive cross-country and road runner and I have been a member of the Isa Rats for six years now,” Mr Mitchell said.
Mr Mitchell said he was honoured and grateful to have been nominated in the Queen’s Baton Relay.
“I am excited about the Commonwealth Games as it will be a fantastic opportunity to see world class sporting events close to home,” he said.
“Sporting events also play an important role in bringing the community together and encouraging a healthy lifestyle.”
TAFE Queensland North Region general manager Joann Pyne said she was excited to see Greg represent the region as a baton bearer.
“Baton bearers are people that inspire others to be great and we’re very excited to have Greg participate in the Queen’s Baton Relay,” Ms Pyne said.
“Greg is a great example of someone who has achieved greatness in their field and he is a fantastic representative for our region and our state.
Ms Pyne said as the Official Training Partner for the Games, TAFE Queensland is training 15,000 volunteers to provide them with the skills needed to make a great Games.
“We are extremely proud to have been chosen as the training partner and we are working hand-in- hand with GOLDOC to provide the best training possible for the Games workforce to bring the Games to life,” Ms Pyne said.
