Club president Richard Norris hopes the event will become a permanent addition to the Mount Isa sporting calendar after a big weekend of activities.
“For those new to the sport, it’ll be a great way to get a taste for triathlon in the lead up to the Dirt N Dust festival in Julia Creek in April, Mr Norris said.
The fun started with a junior triathlon on Saturday morning held at Splashez swimming pool in town with 18 competitors.
Then on Saturday afternoon 32 teams competed in the Mount Isa Corporate Triathlon with athletes taking one of the legs of the 750m swim on the Lake, 20km bike ride almost to town and back or 5km run, three laps to the lookout and back.
The weekend ended early Sunday morning with the first race in the Race to the Creek Series attract 40 competitors to the long or sprint course.
The Sunday race also doubled for points in the the Nissan State Series.
Formal results are not yet available but on their Facebook page the IsaRATS congratulated everyone for getting through the corporate triathlon.
“Man, it was hot!” the club said as temperatures soared in the 40s.
“But everyone smashed it and there were some sprint finishes that kept spectators on their toes.”
Those at the Lake on Saturday were given good reason to hang around with the volunteers from Paws, Hoofs and Claws providing drink and a barbie – doing such good business they had to race back into town for re-supplies at one stage.
Then later the Shack came to the Lake with music performances on the stage in front of the North West Canoe Club until 10pm.
