With no owner, tags, or any sense of road safety, police transported the two street-trotters to Paws Hoofs and Claws where they were able to be relocated to a safe home through local foster carers. 

Animal foster carers take stray, neglected or homeless animals into their home and care for their needs. 

Sue Carson from Paws Hoofs and Claws said they rely greatly on the generosity of animal lovers and because there is no animal shelter here in Mount Isa, they work on a foster care system.

“At the moment there is a huge need for more people or families to become foster carers in Mount Isa,” Ms Carson said.

“If done properly foster caring can be one of the most rewarding experiences a person or family can have.

“There is no perfect profile for a foster carer except a love for animals, patience and the ability to embrace challenges.”

“The other option is adopting an animal,” she said.

Ms Carson said Paws Hoofs and Claws’ goal was to rescue, rehome and reunite animals with loving families or forever homes.

“The police also alert us quite regularly about neglected or wandering dogs,” Ms Carson said.

“Recently we were alerted to a very sick puppy and were able to help him survive a bout of canine parvovirus, he is healthy now and ready for a new home.”
