Grant funding of $40,000 has been allocated to assist the Club with this purchase, which enables dust suppression on Mount Isa’s Buchanan Park racetrack in order to increase visibility and safety for horses and riders.
“This is a great result for the club and Mount Isa,” Dan Ballard, President of the Mount Isa Race Club said.
“The Club makes significant contributions to the local economy ranging from creating employment opportunities to helping community groups with fundraising, so anything that increases the sustainability of our club is good for the whole town.”
“The Club is keenly aware of the importance of a vibrant local events calendar for the Mount Isa region, and has put significant effort into working with other not-for-profit groups and providing an emphasis on family friendly activities on race days.”
Mr Ballard said many country families in the area have maintained a connection with the Club through years of drought and the committee was looking forward to providing activities of interest to support the community.
“The purchase of the water truck contributes to the sustainable continuation of local training activities and race days.
Upcoming events for 2018 include the Beach Race Day, St Patrick’s Day Races, Mothers Race Day, Isa Cup Day and Mailman’s Express.
