Club captain and coordinator for the 2018 William Cook said they were happy to get a people registered as well as raise some money for the club as the season begins to get serious.
“The seniors are already training up at St Kieran’s (Catholic School) and the juniors will start up shortly at the soccer grounds,” Cook said.
“We are always looking for players and we take all sorts of skill levels, we don’t say no to anybody.”
Cook said the pre-season competition started this weekend and that runs for two weeks.
“Then Round 1 starts in the second week of March,” he said.
Cook said their junior teams went all the way up from squirts, which are the five and six year olds.
“Then we have the under sevens all the way through to the under 15s, 16s, 17s and up to the senior men’s competition after that,” he said.
Those seniors won’t need much motivation to get back on the park this season
The club lost the grand final to perennial rivals Parkside in 2007 going down narrowly 2-1 in extra time.
“It went to extra time, they scored a goal right at the end of the second half to beat us,” Cook recalls.
The loss denied them the trifecta having earlier won the minor premiership and the Scottish Cup.
“We managed to pick up most of the trophies last year and that is the only one we didn’t win last year,” Cook said.
Atlas train twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursday evenings.
“If anyone wants to contact us, they can find us on Facebook,” Cook said.
