Police from Charters Towers Station intercepted a silver station wagon driven by a Hughenden couple before searching the vehicle for dangerous drugs.

Police said the vehicle’s passenger, a 23-year-old Hughenden man, locked himself inside of the vehicle, refusing police directions to exit it as he was detained.
Police were required to enter the vehicle via the rear door and forcibly remove the man. Police will further allege the man continued to resist police and a struggle with him ensued for a number of minutes until police were able to place him in handcuffs and into a nearby police vehicle.
The vehicle was subsequently searched, with police allegedly locating a number of items including a water pipe, cannabis, methamphetamine, clip seal bags, metal spoons and four drug utensils pipes which were all subsequently seized.
The pair were both arrested and transported to the Charters Towers Police station.
The driver, a 28-year-old Hughenden woman, has been charged with one count of drug driving, she was also issued with two traffic infringement notices relating to failing to display learner plates and not being under the direction of an authorised person whilst driving.
Police have suspended the woman’s licence and she is expected to appear before the Charters Towers Magistrates court on May 14 in relation to this matter.
The 23-year-old Hughenden man has been charged with two counts of obstructing police, two counts of possessing dangerous drugs, and one count each of possessing drug utensils and possessing anything used in the commission of a crime.
He is expected to appear before the Charters Towers Magistrates Court on April 16 in relation to this matter.
