It's a way of life.
The 19-year-old competed in the finals of the Central Rodeo Association steer wrestling on the weekend after taking the association's rookie title recently.
He recently purchased the horse which helped him qualify for the event named Mustang.
While he admitted the finals weren't what he expected, he said it was great just to be competing.
"It wasn't the best final but it was good to be there," he said.
"I'm still pretty pleased with the way the season has gone."
Although he is originally from Cloncurry, Remfrey now lives in Rockhampton and works in the Blackall coal mines.
Despite being involved in rodeo for almost his whole life, he only started steer wrestling this year.
Before his season ending victory at his new hometown of Rockhampton, he placed second in an event at Blackwater.
Remfrey has picked up prizes at a number of other events throughout the season but said he was still surprised to get his first win.
"I was actually pretty shocked," he said.
"I didn't really expect it but it was a great thing to happen."
It seems as though Remfrey was destined to compete in rodeos.
His father Alan was a well-known competitor in the North West and his two older brothers Marvyn and Byron regularly feature in steer wrestling competitions.
Remfrey got into steer wrestling via one of his good friends who is the Australian Champion Steer Wrestler in Rockhampton.
He previously used one of his horses and also practices with him.
Remfrey said what he enjoys most about steer wrestlling is the feeling it gives him.
"You do get an adrenalin rush," he said.
"It's definitely a thrill competing in a sport like that."
