UPDATE, 12.30pm: A SPOKESWOMAN from the Alfred Hospital in Melbourne confirmed the woman in her 30s was in a serious condition, but the teenage girl is stable. UPDATE, 10.05am: AN Ambulance Victoria spokeswoman said paramedics were called to the incident following reports that a car was on fire. She said a woman in her 30s and a teenage girl were both airlifted to the Alfred Hospital in Melbourne. The woman in her 30s sustained leg injuries and her condition is not known at this stage. The teenage girl was flown to hospital in a stable condition with injuries to her chest, abdomen and pelvis. ViocRoads has advised that the Western Highway is still closed near McDonalds Park Road, Ararat, and detours are still in place. UPDATE, 9.25am: VICTORIA Police has issued a statement saying investigators were notified of the crash by a passer-by. Investigators believe the east-bound vehicle crossed onto the wrong side of the road and crashed into a tree. The man who died was thought to be a front-seat passenger. Two other occupants from the vehicle, a woman and a teenage girl, were airlifted to a Melbourne hospital with serious injuries. Police are still to formally identify the people involved in the crash. A total of 97 lives have been lost on Victoria's roads since the start of the year. Previously: POLICE and emergency services are attending a fatal collision on the Western Highway at Armstrong. The incident happened just after 6.30am on Friday. A Victoria Police spokeswoman said a car had gone off the road and hit a tree. She said a male passenger died at the scene and two female passengers were being airlifted to hospital. The Western Highway is closed near McDonalds Park Road, Ararat. More to come.
