A sign was unveiled this week to link the city of Chengdu with the city of Mount Isa and recognise the past and future trading patrnership.
The sign was commissioned by Barkly Engineering in honour of long-time Chinese trading partner Y&J Industries.
Representatives from Y&J Industries spent time in Mount Isa, meeting with Barkly Engineering, Xstrata Mount?Isa Mines and the Mount Isa City Council to celebrate the ongoing partnership with the Mount Isa business community.
The sign indicates the distance to the city of Chengdu, an important economic centre in the southwest of China.
Mount Isa Mayor Tony McGrady said the meeting this week was an important recognition of the link between the industries in Mount Isa and China.
"Together your companies have been instrumental in supplying essential components to the copper and lead smelters, which in turn are essential components of the mining process in our city," he said.
"Mount Isa is also home to Xstrata, one of the world's great mining companies and certainly an excellent corporate citizen and friend of China.
"This ceremony creates a new relationship between your home city and our people out here in the Queensland bush."
