The two-day event drew 35 competitors, including 25 local bowhunters and 10 visitors travelling from Townsville, Brisbane, Sunshine Coast, Charters Towers, and Hinchinbrook.
Mount Isa Bowhunters Club spokesman Tony Copelin said the weekend was a huge success and he hoped to see some more new faces competing next time.
‘‘It’s always good meeting new people and trying to get them to have a good time so, hopefully, they come back,’’ he said.
Andrew Nielsen took out the men’s competition with a score of 1512, with Anthony Locke close behind on 1482, followed by Nick Bell on 1464.
Rhonda Pitt claimed the women’s division, scoring 1258, while Kristan Ramage was runner-up with 1150.
Hinchinbrook’s Daniel Parsons was rarely troubled in taking out the junior category with a total score of 1460, followed by Mount Isa’s Paul Giardina in second place with 1110.
Jodie Jury recorded a total of 1338, edging out Charters Towers bowhunter Clay Grubb (1326) for the cub division.
Copelin praised the efforts of standout junior Imahl Shaw, who participated in his debut bowhunting competition.
‘‘He’s a regular shooter with us but that’s his first competition and (he) picked himself up a medal and certificate,’’ he said.
The Mount Isa Bowhunters Club will return to competitive action on Sunday, July 5 for a club shoot-off.
