WHEN I was offered the job in Mount Isa I thought 'why not?', it is an adventure! Three flights later I arrived in town and immediately fell in love with the area and the community.

Although I am from south of the border please do not hold that against me. I’m very excited to join the Star newsroom and keen to seek out and share colourful, local stories and those which matter to the Mount Isa community.
My own story: As a small town country girl I am passionate about rural communities and the issues and concerns that locals face in their day to day lives.
I was born and raised in Gilgandra, NSW, went to Bathurst Charles Sturt University (CSU) to study and spent the last six months in Moree.
Throughout my time at the Moree Champion I covered sport, council meetings, court reporting, school life, community news and events and breaking news.
Despite the fact I’ve chosen a profession which sees me spend hours in front of a computer screen, I love sport and being outdoors.
In my spare time I enjoy roo shooting, pigging, camping, horse riding, speedway, motorbike riding, playing guitar and attending rugby union games.
I am passionate about the freedom of speech and giving the community a voice.
Before starting at the Moree Champion I had also worked at The Gilgandra Weekly and The Land newspaper as an intern in North Richmond, NSW.
Aside from journalism I have also worked three years at GrainCorp and five years at the Rock Cake Bakery, in Gilgandra.
I attended Bathurst CSU as it is known as one of the best campuses to study journalism in NSW. I really enjoyed my three years there.
CSU’s facilities were amazing having their own radio station and television broadcast training room which allowed me to have some hands on experience before stepping out into the workforce.
While studying I also entered the Tooraweenah Showgirl competition in which I became a rural ambassador for our local community and continued to Bathurst for Zone Finals.
It was the best experience I have ever had. Although I didn’t make it through to state finals I was glad to have made some new friends and industry contacts.
Over the next two years I plan to work and travel around Australia before travelling abroad. I am open to the thought of new experiences and travelling through rural and outback Australia.
With a passion for rural journalism I felt Mount Isa was a great place to continue my career and I hope to spend at least six months in town.
Finally I’d like to say thanks to everyone who has already made me feel so welcome in town.
I’m looking forward to getting to know you all better, as well as those I haven’t had a chance to meet yet.
