Central State School student Tenealle Marshall and Spinifex High School student Rachael Jackson modeled the indigenous themed dresses that they made.
Tenealle said her dress was about aboriginal people coming together and connecting.
She learned sewing since attending Central State School’s positive learning unit’s (PLU) weekly extracurricular workshops, which were open to the community.
PLU coordinator Tina Butcher said; “for them to get up there (on the talent night) was absolutely huge. The strength in their heart to go outside their comfort zone.”
Tenealle’s grandmother, elder Joan Marshall, said it was good to see an aboriginal theme represented at the talent show. She also saw the practical use of sewing classes, which no longer seemed a common skill to be taught.
