MOUNT Isa State MP Rob Katter will soon become the first in the Katter dynasty to gain a pilot licence, which he intends on using to cover the vast sized electorate.

“I can’t really afford to use it for personal use,” he said.
“I want to hop from town to town in as cheap an aircraft as possible...just to be able to do the Richmond Races then go to Winton in the same day.”
There were often important events happening across the electorate on the same day, and he was unable to attend all of them.
Mr Katter said it had taken much time and expense to complete requirements, and has had to practice in Townsville.
It has cost about $20,000 of his own money so far.
He was aiming for his Private Pilots Licence but would first gain his Recreational Pilots Licence.
Due to his demanding work schedule he has practiced on his holidays during the past 18 months.
He estimated he had completed 90 per cent of his requirements.
