Mark Van Ryt, president of the Mount Isa Landcare Group said they went out the prior weekend and came away with a satisfactory day’s work.
“Today our clean up haul was one trailer load of bottles, cans, clothing, and assorted auto parts,” Mr Van Ryt said.
“The rubbish represented decades of bad behaviour (also bad road conditions) along the track to East Leichhardt Dam.”
Mr Van Ryt said they didn’t have to go far down the track to find the rubbish.
“This mess was collected only in the first kilometre of the track,” he said.
“We completed our walk in the shade of Shankling Creek where we stopped for tea, coffee, cake and a sausage sizzle.”
Mr Van Ryt offered a big thanks to the staff of Mount Isa Water Board for their great help.
A total of eight people participated in the effort.
Mr Van Ryt encouraged people to help keep the north-west clean.
“I encourage you to please get involved somewhere with your friends,” he said.
“Even if its just to clean up your own back yard.”
