It was a time to take stock and look for signs of recovery, which were evident everywhere at the awards.
Ian Ahern, managing director of event sponsor the logistics company EMO Trans spoke about the resilience and buoyancy of the local business community in tough times.
“That’s why we have made the decision to create a permanent presence in the Isa,” Mr Ahern said.
“We have been excited to see that commitment shared by the recognition of the region in the routing of the Northern Territory gas pipeline project via Mount Isa and share the hope that all can benefit from this significant project going forward.”
Commerce North West president Travis Crowther was also optimistic about the future and said the awards recognised businesses and individuals who have created diversification, development and growth in the region and whose work demonstrated service and product excellence, sustainability and commercial success.
“We’re delighted to deliver an awards program that recognises the innovation, perseverance and passion of Mount Isa’s business sector,” Mr Crowther said.
Mayor Joyce McCulloch congratulated Commerce North West for showcasing the local business community in the awards and all those who were nominated for awards.
“Whether you won an award or not it is testament to your valuable services and each and every one of you has made a difference,” Cr McCulloch said.
“All of you are invested in building relationships with members of our community and that is incredibly important.”
Isuzu Ute, which only opened its doors in July, took out the major award of the night, the business of the year ahead of some very stiff competition. They also won the new investment award. Other multiple winners on the night included LJ Hooker Mount Isa, Sanctum Skin and Spa Retreat and Start Construction and Hire.
On behalf of the North West Star I congratulate these high achievers and all winners and nominees on the night. DB
