Biennial school musicals were revived by the Drama and Music departments in 2013, and this is the first time a live band is accompanying the performers.
Maverick Musical’s production of ‘Smithy’ is a two-act musical written by Simon and Jo Denver.
Smithy is a play within a play, as school bogan Michael Smith discovers the only way to kiss the girl of his dreams is to play Romeo, on stage.
There are great character roles and plenty of chorus opportunities for all students to shine.
The college’s head of performing arts, Anna Telford, says students have been working on the production since the start of this year, rehearsing three days a week.
Music teacher and Smithy producer Jade Marinelli said the show has 12 musical numbers, with a band of nine students and staff conducted by instrumental teacher Alicia Freeman.
Around 50 students will be involved in the production, including sound, lighting, and backstage crews.
Performances take place on Friday May 19 and Saturday May 20 at Good Shepherd Catholic College's Lumen Christi Centre in Mount Isa.
There is also a preview performance at the College Easter Fete on Friday March 24 at 7pm, and a school performance at St Joseph’s Catholic School assembly.
