BUFFS 303S 15 (Adam Langtree 4) DEFEATED MIBC ISLANDERS 9
Round three kicked off with one of the new sides taking on the strongest side of the past three years.
The Buffs 303s managed to get over the line but the MIBC Islanders certainly pushed them all the way.
The early running saw the Islanders sink behind 4-1 as the 303s flexed their might behind good wins to Jye Graham and Adam Langtree, and even when the lead extended to 6-3, the result seemed to never be in doubt.
However an incredible 5-0 run to the Islanders saw them push past the ladder leaders and take a firm 8-6 lead as Peter Burgess and Samm Carpenter stamped their authority on the match.
The 303s rallied again behind Langtree and Jordan Pickering and saw the 303s take nine of the final 10 frames, leaving the Islanders pondering how the day slipped through their fingers.
Well done to the 303s though, focussing well in the first match on the year where they were tested.
BARKLY INCREDIBALLZ 15 (James Hay 4; Tim Graham 4) DEFEATED MIBC HUSTLERS 9 (Steve Healy 3)
The other side from the Island Bowls Club, the Hustlers, had a match similar to the Islanders in which they came back well after an early deficit, only to lose in the last matches of the day.
The Incrediballz came out blazing, with good wins to their captain James Hay, as well as Tim Graham, both of whom would remain undefeated on the day.
At 4-2 their lead didn’t reflect how they got the jump on the unsuspecting Hustlers.
The Hustlers had a resurgence, taking six of the next seven frames, particularly behind their captain Steve Healy.
Up 7-6, the Hustlers then lost focus taking only two of the remaining frames and finishing with their first loss of the year.
The Incrediballz though will take some much needed confidence into round four where they battle the 303s.
IRISH CLUB OUTLAWS 20 (Graeme Van Der Vliet 4; Frank Shakur 4; Michael Hazle 4) DEFEATED BARKLY BOOZERS 4
The Irish Club Outlaws found their rhythm in a massive win over the Barkly Boozers 20-4 in their first home match of the year.
For the Outlaws, Mick Hazle and Frank Shakur slipped into the side well with yet another strong performance.
The Boozers will again require focus to close matches out and put some wins on the board, though Wacko Walford was strong with three wins on the day.
BUFFS JMI 18 (Tristan Saltmere 4) DEFEATED BOWLING ALLEY CPR 6 (Dwayne McDonald 3)
After two stirring wins in the first two weeks of the year, the Bowling Alley CPR returned to earth with a thud, falling at the hands of the Buffs JMI who took their first win on the year.
The JMI were ruthless in closing out the day, but it took some resolve as they fell behind early 4-2 as the CPR took a stirring 4-1 lead.
The expanded format this year suggests teams should concentrate throughout the day, and the CPR fell into the same trap as they saw their lead become a 8-4 deficit from which they wouldn’t recover.
The end result was 18-6, and the JMI were led by Tristan Saltmere who continued his good form.
