The return of the rodeo and the campdraft meant a big crowd was in to watch a fine afternoon of racing at the track.
A cup day for the Ballards started in Race 1 the Brett and Mari Gundersen Maiden Plate over 1000m with Keith Ballard riding the favourite Denise’s Calabah Flame to victory ahead of Thank You and Fast Brass.
The Ballards were back in the driving seat in race 2 over 1000m the Remote Mechanical Services Open Handicap this time Danny Ballard aboard Denise’s All Fives taking out the race ahead of Smooth Element and Holey Gadoley.
In Race 3 the Brent and Kate Krause – Kabz Plumbing BenchMark 60 Handicap Tamara Tincknell broke the Ballard stranglehold winning on Craiglea Swift.
The Steven Royes’ trained horse was equal favourite and raced well.
Speck of Gold was second and I’m Desperate finished third.
Race 4 was the big one the Toby and Gem Harris Road Contractors Boulia Cup BenchMark 65 Handicap over 1400m and a prize pool of $10,000.
He's a Magician was the favourite with Danny Ballard aboard though this time he was riding for trainer Stephen Finter.
Backing up from a second placed finish in Mount Isa last time out, this time it ran an assured race winning by over two lengths to take out the Cup.
Smooth general with Kerry Rockett aboard finished second with Logan’s Run back in third.
The final race of the day was the Dulcie Grimshaw Memorial QTIS BenchMark 45 over 1200m.
This one was a victory for those who fancied a roughie at the last.
Lunar Luck lived up to its name brining home the bacon for jockey Shaun Mossman and trainer Justin Bawden.
By the very slimmest of margins, they edged out Danny Ballard looking for his third win of the day riding Lord Nick for mum Denise.
Third was Rage Within with jockey Terrance Hill riding for Julia Creek trainer Tanya Perry.
