Just audible over the victory hoo-ha, captain Darcy Selona said the team was ‘stoked’ to win against Isaroos.
“We played hard, fought hard, hit some great goals – we had good opportunities and just stuck to it in the end.”
“We’ve got a couple of new players and some players that have been with the team for years,” Selona said.
Two new players for Parkside B grade scored goals, Brad Zvaigzne and Jacob Hardy.
It was a good clean game on both sides, entertaining for spectators lining the field.
Referee John Ivers said it was the closest and most exciting game of the day.
“Both sides had opportunity to score and both sides could have done a bit more with their opportunities, but in the end the side that won was probably the better side on the day – but both teams could have won,” Ivers said.
First year coach Matt Dawson has played for Parkside ‘his “entire life” and said the boys made him proud.
“We’ve had a lot of these lads for five or six years. some of them started as juniors like me and played the way through,” Dawson said.
“It was a tough game tonight, coming into it I didn’t know if we’d win because they are a top-of-the-ladder team.
“We’re sort of halfway down the ladder but we came good. The boys put on a bit of a show, played their hearts out and we came away with a win,” he said.
