Copper City Cycling Club will be hosting a series of events as part of the Glencore Great Western Games on Saturday.

The club said it was hoping to entice some beginner cyclists by including a D-grade for all three events, which will include shorter course length, support from more experienced cyclists and a more relaxed approach to racing.
“We encourage riders of all levels to come along and have a go,” the club said on its Facebook page.

The club said it would have a social grade for those wanting to give road cycling a try without the pressure of racing.
On Saturday there will be two events
RACE 1 - PROLOGUE
Format: Short time trial - staggered start
Distance: 2.5km
Start time: 12:30pm registration for an 1pm start
Cost: $5 (There will also be a one off $5 fee per competitor for the Western Games levy)
Grades: A, B, C, D all racing same distance. Ages 14 +
Course: starting on Duchess Road, 1km past 23rd Avenue
RACE 2 - Criterium
The schedule and times of this race are subject to change pending nomination numbers and riders will be notified at the prologue.
Format: Criterium: timed lap race on closed circuit
Distance:
A grade - 25 minutes plus 2 laps
B grade - 20 minutes plus 2 laps
C grade - 15 minutes plus 2 laps
D grade - 10 minutes plus 2 laps
Start time: 2:30pm registration for an 3pm start
Cost: Open/U19 - $10, U17/U15/U13 - $5
Again there will also be a one off $5 fee per competitor for the Western Games levy.
Grades: A, B, C, D as above. All ages
The course will be closed circuit at Buchanan Park car park, Simpson Street, Mount Isa
Points will be awarded for each stage of racing and winners will be the highest points score in each stage and overall points for the tour.
You will need to bring a fit for purpose bike, AS helmet, no singlets, covered in shoes, no iPods or similar allowed and no time trial bars.
