Resources Minister Dr Anthony Lynham Lynham will be in Mount Isa today (Wednesday September 13) to turn the first sod at Mount Isa on the $800m Northern Gas Pipeline with the project’s builder, Australian energy company, Jemena.

The project will see Jemena construct a 622km gas pipeline between Tennant Creek in the Northern Territory and Mount Isa in order to connect Territory gas fields to the east-coast gas market.

Today’s ceremony will mark the official opening of Queensland operations though work at the Mount Isa site has already started.

Jemena has already commenced investigative work on expanding the Northern Gas Pipeline and extending it south from Mount Isa to further integrate Territory gas into the east-coast gas grid.

The Mount Isa compressor station is situated on the Boulia Rd near the Diamantina Power Station.
