Half an hour later, thunder could be heard and the rain intensified.
This was the first major fall for the town since July and a total of 14.4mm had been recorded by 12.30pm.
It was forecast to reach 37 degrees today and a 70 per cent chance of showers was predicted by the Bureau of Meteorology.
