When North West Hospital and Health Service (NWHHS) pharmacists, Toby Wicks and Joshua Brock decided to grow moustaches for Movember, it was not greeted with any great enthusiasm by their girlfriends, but the pair persisted, starting early to get them a good run up to Movember.

With the pair already sporting impressive mo’s only a few days into Movember, Joshua admitted to doing a bit of ‘prior planning’, while Toby said he was hoping his mo would thicken out a little bit further into the month.
Working in the health sector had raised their own awareness of men’s health issues, and prompted them to do something to help.
“I know a number of men who have gone through mental health challenges, so I decided to grow a ‘filthy slug’ just to help raise funds and awareness and identify with those who are struggling,” Josh said.
“For a lot of men, it’s not easy to talk about these issues, so wearing a moustache is just an indication of our support. We’re speaking out with our moustaches.”
As an outreach pharmacist who travels to the NWHHS’s remote facilities, Toby has seen firsthand the health challenges in the North West, and is encouraged by the number of men’s support groups throughout the region.
“It’s an indication of the need to support men and whatever their health issues are, but it’s also a sign that there is help available, and there are processes in place to support men.”
