National Others Week began nine years ago to encourage every person across Australia, and around the world, to notice the need of others.
About 30 volunteers have taken to the streets of Mount Isa to display random acts of kindness, by helping residents with cleaning and maintenance of their houses.
Christian Outreach Centre pastor, Keith Christie, said it was great to get out into the community and assist those in need.
“It is about doing an act of kindness for someone. Kindness has the ability to brighten a life and change the world, and National Others Week is all about celebrating the power of kindness.
“It could be buying someone a cup of coffee or paying for someones groceries, there is a whole heap of ways that you can be kind to somebody.”
This week the volunteers assisted 120 households across different suburbs of Mount Isa.
“We simply go to people’s homes and ask them if we can help out in some way. We cannot help everyone but we do what we can,” Pastor Keith said.
“This year we have mostly been cleaning gardens or painting, what we don’t do is take business away from local businesses. We only go to places where they really need help and may not be financially viable for the maintenance being done.
“We like to promote this as a lifestyle and last year we conducted six weeks around Mount Isa helping locals.
“The Bible says ‘Love Is Kind’. It is love made visible through good deeds and actions. Whether that’s a sincere smile, a heartfelt hug or a genuine gesture – what matters is that kindness comes from the heart.”
