Warrigals followed suit at 7.30pm, winning 66 to 7 points over Cloncurry.

Keas captain, Lance Cope, said it was a real physical task to match the Euros.

“We just had to match our forwards and follow up with our backline, and follow our plans that our coach gave to us,” Cope said.

“Our training during the week helped, too, we’ve had lots of players showing up to training.”

Standout players included George Hema who helped by getting under the post to score, and Jakope Kauvere, who scored two impressive 70m tris.

Sonny Kumeroa had a good kicking display throughout the night, which Cope said put a lot of confidence in the team.

Keas will play against Cloncurry this Saturday at 7.30pm at Rugby Park.

In the second game of the night at 7.30pm, Warrigals captain, Mick Scotney, said thing were a bit slow to start with.

“It was pretty even off the start, but once we got the first tri we got into the rhythm of it,” Scotney said.

Standout players included Creg Ryan who was awarded man of the match.

Warrigals will play Euros this Saturday November 18 at 6.30pm, in the fourth round of this Mount Isa Rugby Union season.

“The team actually played really well all across the park,” Scotney said.

Warrigals player Stacie Campbell said the team felt like they dominated in the physical contest, and acknowledged a job well done by the referee.

“There were a lot of stoppages. The referee did a great job – she took control of the game which was really good. That’s what is needed in rugby out here, keeping control,” Campbell said.

“We still have a lot of work to do to match the top teams, and we are working towards our match in a couple of weeks when we face Keas. At the moment we feel that they are the team to beat.

“We’ll be looking forward to concentrating on a lot of our ball possession and ball work to see how we do in that match.”
