The event had been scheduled for December 9 but Mayor Joyce McCulloch said they had feedback that there was already a busy schedule of activities and events leading in to Christmas, and a big demand on people’s wallets.
“We have decided to take up an opportunity to create a new October event and fund raise for charity at a time of year when there is less pressure of everyone’s finances,” Cr McCulloch said.
The first Mayor’s Wine Tree event in December 2016, which replaced the Mayor’s Christmas function, was was hugely popular.
All proceeds raised on the evening will be donated to purchase vital equipment for the newly established Special Care Nursery at the Mount Isa Based Hospital.
“We certainly hope everyone understands our reasoning for postponing the event and gets behind this important fund raiser when it’s next held in October 2018,” the Mayor said.
The Mayor said she hoped there would be a big crowd at the Mount Isa City Council’s Carols by Candlelight at 6pm on Sunday December 3 at Buchanan Park.
