Operation Tuscon was established to address anti-social behaviours and in particular street offences, theft and wilful damage. This came following police consultation with the community and other Government and non-government agencies.

The operation consists of three phases, Phase One ran on December 23, 2017 to January 5, 2018, Phase Two will run from January 6 to January 15 and Phase Three will run from January 20 to February 2.

The operation has been led by officers from the Mount Isa Tactical Crime Squad, Child Protection and Investigation Unit and with additional assistance from general duties officers.

To meet the community’s expectations, reduce offences and to address crime trends, Phase Two of Operation Tuscon will involve a further ten plain-clothed and uniform officers from Cairns and Townsville, bolstering police numbers in Mount Isa.

Phase Three will also involve a contingent of officers from Townsville and Cairns, with additional road policing officers arriving from Brisbane to assist with the back to school component of the Christmas Road Safety Campaign.

Senior Sergeant, Brad Inskip, from Mount Isa District said the community can expect to see a more visible police presence on the streets throughout the operation.

“The additional officers will bolster our resources throughout January which is a good thing for community safety,” Senior Sergeant Inskip said.

“We always encourage the community to report crime to police via Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or Triple Zero (000) if it is an emergency.”
