Buttercream Queen Cakes opened at 4/99 Pamela Street, Townview, on January 1 and is attracting big business from across north west Queensland with its desirable, unique and tasty treats.
Local cake artist, Jodica Roos, chose 2018 to step into the business market after making cakes for friends and family for about three years.
She first discovering her talent, when she was asked to supply a baby shower cake for her cousin.
“I decided to make it myself, I was shocked with the result and it escalated from there. I began to try out different techniques of all sorts of designs and that is when a little hobby become one of my biggest passions,” she said.
Based at her house, Ms Roos started making one to two cakes a fortnight and that slowly rose to making a steady six a week.
She said opening a shop in Mount Isa was a spontaneous and quick decision but it had paid off, with an overwhelming band of supporters ordering cakes.
“This is my passion and I love to create something different for each customer. For January I already have an abundance of custom cakes booked.”
Alongside her sweet creations, Ms Roos also supplies a variety of other treats on a daily basis including freshly baked goods, home cooked meals, fresh sandwiches, coffee and more.
“What makes my business different from other takeaway venues is that you can come in for your customised cakes, fresh sandwiches made to order and not pre-made sitting for hours,” she said.
“There is a huge variety of flavoured sweets and most of all cheap and reasonable prices to get a fresh home cooked meal every weekday from 8am - 8pm starting at only six dollars.
“Since day one of opening I have had a few regulars that come in everyday for a coffee, cake or meal. So far everyday has been busy.
“The community have been so amazing with giving great feedback and extra ideas. Within the past three years I have gained a great clientele of happy returning customers and I can't thank them enough.”
