Council was responding to a question from the Star after members of the community expressed anger over recent rubbish dumping in the riverbed near the Grey St bridge.
Mount Isa City Council Chief Executive Officer Sharon Ibardolaza said it was disappointing to see that some people in our community think it’s ok to treat our local environment like a rubbish dump.
“The image of rubbish strewn in the riverbed beneath the Grey Street Bridge is clearly one we’d all prefer not to see,” Ms Ibardolaza said.
“Mount Isa City Council Parks and Gardens staff will be on site Saturday morning to clean up the area.”
Council said its local laws officers will also be on hand with support from Queensland Police to move on people who should not be there. Incidents can be reported using the online reporting form available on the council’s website or phone 47473200.
