Adelaide based company Heavymech has taken over Ottoway Fabrication on Duchess Road.
General manager Vince Belperio said it is the first time the company has expanded out of South Australia.
“We saw a lot of opportunity in Mount Isa, seeing as it is a town with a mine on its doorstep,” Mr Belperio said.
“We think we can support industry here really well.”
Mount Isa manager Chris Boshoff said Heavymech had acquired all of Ottoway’s assets in town.
“Since January we have employed three new local staff members so we have a team of 13 now,” Mr Boshoff said.
“We have some good size projects on the go and we are excited to broaden our scope.
“At the moment we primarily do fabrication but under Heavymech we want to get into more machinary work as well,” he said.
“Hopefully we will be able to generate more local jobs.”
