Last year it was Cloncurry celebrating C150, this year it is Normanton’s turn celebrating N150 with a week of events in August celebrating the town’s founding in 1868.

The program starts on Friday August 3 with registrations at the town’s Visitor Information Centre followed by a meet and greet with nibbles and drinks that evening at the VIC from 6-9pm.
There is also a PCYC family movie night from 6pm.
On Saturday August 4 there are QCWA markets at the Shire Hall from 9am-noon with town tours from 9am (contact Bynoe on 4714 9030 to book).
Then at 6.30pm the Normanton 150 Gala Ball is on at the Burns Philp Building with dinner and live entertainment – book tickets through Carpentaria Shire Council on 4745 2220.
From 8am on Sunday August 5 there is a special four-hour QR train ride on the Gulflander.
There is also Karumba markets from 9am at the Sunset Tavern, as well as more Normanton town tours, a gun club “pigeon shoot” with barbecue lunch from noon and a Bulls, Broncs and Barrels Rodeo at the Showgrounds from 6pm.
On Monday August 6 there is a Normanton Three Tribes exhibit at the art gallery 8am-noon.
In the afternoon there is an open day at the state school and Gulf Christian College, a PCYC sports day and bowls and sausage sizzle at the Bowls Club.
On Tuesday August 7 there are free tours (9am-11.30am) of the solar farm (contact 0448 776 393 to book), a bowls comp from noon and an invite only Mayor’s dinner from 6pm. There is also a Rangers’ kupp murri from 6pm (register at VIC 4748 8444).
On Wednesday August 8 there is an official ceremony from 9am with a street party from 6.30pm to midnight.
The week concludes on Saturday August 11 with a poet’s breakfast at the Karumba Recreational Club from 8am.
