The trial time workshop is the first one to be held at Buchanan Park.
Mr Kenny said he’d taught clinics before and workshops at Cloncurry.
“My wife and I travel the rodeo circuit so it’s the perfect opportunity.
“I had a workshop at Richmond last weekend and with two weeks freetime, I thought why not, it’s the perfect opportunity so it was arranged with the Mount Isa Rodeo Series Club.
The workshop helps to refine the abilities of the young and older cowboys and girls by teaching them the skills and perfecting them.
We’d be learning all the timed events, like the rope and tie, steer wrestling, team roping, heading and healing and barrel racing. The course covers every aspect from putting a holder on the horse to life skills.

“We’ll be learning all the timed events, like the rope and tie, steer wrestling, team roping, heading and healing and barrel racing and the course covers every aspect from putting a holder on the horse to life skills.”
The participants learn in three stages.
Mr Kenny said stage one is all about learning the skills to rope the dummies on the ground for instance, then stage two is getting on a horse while it’s being towed by a four-wheeled motorbike in the arena. So its controlled and the participants get a good feel for what it's like.
“The third stage is when we put a beast in the arena and they learn to track it around and, position and angle their swing,” he said.
On Sunday the workshop concludes with a competition for the participants.
“It’s great the clubs can organise these days, it’s very encouraging,” Mr Kenny said.
Mount Isa Rodeo Club President Mark Thompson said we are organising a poddy calf and steers workshop at the moment and looking at holding it in May.
Shane Kenny will be competing at the Diamond Jubilee 60th Anniversary Mount Isa Mines Rotary Rodeo in August.
