But Mr Katter need not be concerned – the teenager has been selected to represent the seat of Traeger in the 23rd Queensland Youth Parliament.
Each year, 93 young people are chosen to represent their state electorate in Queensland’s most prestigious youth program.
“I applied because thought it would be a great experience and a good opportunity to learn more about our parliamentary system,” Ms Fricke said.
“The biggest problem for young people in our region is that they are not represented enough. They have such good ideas to put forward about how to make government better but they do not have a voice yet.
“I want to get involved with community as much as I can,” she said.
The Youth Members are divided into ‘departments’ and will spend the next five months consulting with community to draft bills.
They will spend a week at Parliament House in September debating their legislation in front of ministers and members of parliament.
Ms Fricke was selected to the Agriculture, Environment and Natural Resources department.
She said her legislation will focus on waste management and mining rehabilitation.
Ms Fricke joined other future leaders for the launch of the Queensland Youth Parliament in Brisbane last weekend.
Youth minister Di Farmer officially launched the program at Parliament House and said the program was a unique opportunity for young people to be a voice for their community.
“It is an ideal platform for government to engage with young people and to hear their ideas about the future,” Ms Farmer said.
“The Youth Parliament process also connects young people with their peers and to parliamentarians. This government wants a state where the voices of young people are heard, respected and acknowledged,” she said.
