A report produced by the Brotherhood of St Lawrence found 'Outback Queensland' has the highest youth unemployment rate in Australia with a staggering 67 per cent unemployment.
The Mount Isa community came together on Friday to celebrate the program trying to turn those statistics around.
Jobspace, an offshoot of headspace, celebrated its first birthday with a community morning tea.
The program combines mental health and employment support to give local youth the best chance at success.
New headspace centre manager Kevin Hillebrand said the program had helped about 50 young people in the past year.
“Having purpose and a reason to get out of bed in the morning is very important for a person’s emotional wellbeing,” Mr Hillebrand said.
“We are celebrating one year of a lot of hard work and success from the Jobspace team.”
Riley Hunter-Robinson has been diagnosed with Asperger syndrome and said without the help of the Jobspace program he would have struggled to find employment.
“They showed me how to look for jobs, write my resume and also gave me techniques to use in job interviews,” Mr Hunter-Robinson said.
”I have Aspergers and I doubt I would have been able to get through an interview and talk well without the tricks I learnt.
“It is really great, it helped me find a job and build my confidence,” he said.
