Wanderers womens captain Chelsea McKavanagh said the club has fielded a womens team – but they have nobody to play against.
The team has about 25 players at the moment and is putting the call out to find more.
Ms McKavanagh said the team splits in half each fortnight and play one another.
“We have enough at the moment to split in two and we play seven aside,” Ms McKavanagh said.
“We are definitely looking for some more players, if we get enough we could work with some of the other clubs in town to take on a womens team.
“It is really a game for everyone, our youngest player is 17 and our oldest player is in her 30s. No experience is necessary and all fitness levels are welcome,” she said.
Ms McKavanagh said joining the team is a great way to make new friends.
“I work in recruitment at the mines and I always say sport is the best way to introduce people into the community,” Ms McKavanagh said.
“You get a chance to meet a lot of people you normally wouldn’t, you will make a lot of good mates.
“It is not as intimidating or scary as it seems. I think it is a really great challenge,” she said.
The women train Mondays and Wednesdays from 6pm at Alec Inch Oval.
Ms McKavanagh said if you are keen to play, come along to training or message her on Facebook.
