Mount Isa police have passed on their condolences to dog handler Sergeant Mick Silman and his wife Sergeant Kate Silman after the sudden passing of retired police dog Flynn.

“Flynn died unexpectedly from an aggressive form of cancer which spread from his stomach and into his lungs,” Sen. Sgt Renee Hanrahan said.
“Flynn was was born in 2008 and entered the Queensland Police Service in 2010 where he served seven years as an operational police dog in the field of detection.
“Flynn honourably and proudly served the state of Queensland and was solely responsible for disrupting, dismantling and eliminating major significant drug trafficking syndicates during his time as a proud serving member of the Queensland Police Service,” she said.
Flynn was recognised on a national and international level for his dedication to service and was the recipient of the Ian Jamieson Award and the Australian War Dog and Trackers Association Medal for decorated service.
In 2017, Flynn formally retired in Mount Isa from active duty, however spent the past 12 months of his life educating school students of the specialist role of police dogs, engaging students on important personal safety messages.
“Flynn had an incredible career, was loyal and loving, but most importantly he was our friend and Mount Isa’s local police dog,” Sen. Sgt Renee Hanrahan said.
“We will forever miss you, mate. Thank you for your service.”
