EARLIER: At 10.50pm Saturday, the Barkly Highway remains closed with long delays after a single vehicle truck rollover around 4pm this afternoon.
TMR are advising people to seek an alternate route from Cloncurry to Mount Isa, which means a 200km detour via the fourwheel drive track to Duchess.
At the scene paramedics responded to a “stated unconscious driver trapped in a road train rollover” but there has been no ambulance update for six hours.
He is believed to have non-life threatening injuries.
“Semi trailer crash 10 minutes west of cloncurry. Blocking access both ways. Truckie okay,” a reader at the scene told us around 4pm.
Police Twitter quickly confirmed, it said “#QldTraffic - Barkly Hwy closed, approximately 25kms West of Cloncurry after a truck rollover. Expected to be closed for several hours, avoid or delay travel if possible. Driver believed to have non-life threatening injuries.”
Calls to Mount Isa Police are being diverted to the Transport and Main Roads which is still saying the road remains closed and “long delays are expected”
Earlier a Facebook user told the North West Star “FYI - At around 4pm this afternoon a road train rolled over approx. 20-25km West of Cloncurry, heading towards Mt Isa. Both lanes are blocked.”
Mitchell Begeng confirmed with a photo from the scene.
More details, as known.
