We are very fortunate to work with a very dedicated team of Rotarians, our valued sponsors and supporters to bring our massive event to life, backed up of course by hundreds of volunteers who all help bring our wonderful event to fruition.
The Mount Isa City Council will add to the rodeo spirit with its 2018 Isa Street Festival on the Wednesday night of rodeo week, August 8, with a street parade, plenty of market and food stalls as well as an amazing concert with Isaiah, winner of the 8th X Factor Australia.
The council along with the Isa Street Planning Committee are inviting local schools, sporting and community groups, organisations and businesses to participate in the 2018 Isa Street Festival by getting creative and putting together an entry for the street parade.
This year’s Diamond Birthday Celebrations theme celebrates the rodeo’s 60th event. It will be fantastic to see all the different elements including floats, walking groups, and costumes inspired by this theme.
There is $1,500 in prize money up for grabs in each of the following categories: Best Themed Entry, Best School Entry and Best Community Group Entry.
The street festival will provide a colourful celebration for the local community, as well as an incredible welcome to visitors to our city – and sets the stage for a huge weekend of entertainment built around our world-class rodeo.
Applications are now open to register for the street festival and you can download a form from the council’s website, www.mountisa,qld.gov.au.
Don’t forget our gold class (reserved) seating and general admission tickets, as well as Sunday night Arena Concert headlined by Jimmy Barnes, behind the scenes chute tours and Swag and Tent City accommodation are all on sale online through our website (www.isarodeo.com.au).
The Isa Rodeo dates back to 1959. Back then it weeks to walk the bucking horses in from Carrandotta Station on the Queensland Northern Territory border to the old Rodeo yards at Kalkadoon Park, now the horses and bulls are brought in by truck.
