Mount Isa City Council will be holding its annual Pet Day on Saturday 9 June at the Civic Centre front lawn.
Mayor Joyce McCulloch said a highlight of the event will be the Doggie Hair and Fashion Show and the Pet Photo competition, with entries now open.
“I’m encouraging everyone to mark this event in their diary as it’s going to be another great day,” said Mayor Joyce.
“This is all in the spirit of fun and recognising the special role our pets play in our lives.
“I’m really looking forward to seeing how creative pet owners can be with their most loyal friends.”
Pets of all types will be the stars of the Pet Photo competition.”
Categories include best selfie, best dog photo, best cat photo, best other pet photo and best pet group photo.
“We’ll be uploading the photos to the Mount Isa City Council Facebook page during the week leading up to Pet Day, and we encourage everyone to like and share their favourite pictures,” Mayor Joyce.
“We’re also expecting some great photos from the Doggie Hair and Fashion Show.
“The Fashion Show will have two categories Best Hair and Fashion Dog, and Best Hair and Fashion Duo. Everyone who enters will receive a participation gift bag.”
The finalist Pet Photos will be on display and the winners announced on Pet Day.
“Pet Day will be a great family outing with a jumping castle for the kids, delicious food courtesy of Paws, Hoofs and Claws, a Paws on Patrol display and free tea and coffee station,” said Mayor Joyce.
Cr Paul Stretton said Pet Day will also be an opportunity to check registration details are up to date and receive advice on responsible pet ownership.
“The Council will have a pet registration counter and we’ll be offering vouchers for micro-chipping and de-sexing,” said Cr Stretton.
The Pet Day festivities begin at 8.30am on Saturday 9 June, wrapping up at 11.30am.
Registration for the Doggie Hair and Fashion competition closes at 9.15am on the day, with judging starting at 9.30am.
