The festival covers six sectors of the performing arts – dance, drama, guitar, choir, band and strings.
The week long ‘Mulkadee’ challenges students to put together a public performance standard presentation in just five days under the tutelage of some of the region’s most accomplished conductors, directors and arts teachers.
Good Shepherd music teacher Jade Marinelli said local students will come together with about 1000 other teens from across the the Townsville Diocese to take part.
“This year is the first year they are having a theme which is really exciting. It is Alice in Wonderland so it will be interesting to see how it all comes together on stage,” Ms Marinelli said.
“The students are really excited, they are billeted to families in Townsville and some of the students have been going since Year 8 and staying with the same family each year.”
