The course was presented by the highly regarded Jim Minehane from Athletics North Queensland’s.
Last minute adjustments had to be made to the shed layout to accommodate the 20 attendees which consisted of 14 club and committee members and six of the local high schools PE teachers.
After a good amount of practical competition experience, the accreditation qualifies the attendees to be able to officiate at events to the same calibre as the Commonwealth Games.
However most of the participants attended solely to gain a better understanding of the rules and to be able to be confident in their decisions on the athletics club days.
The course has also proved very timely as the school system is about to head into their inter house, District and Regional athletics trials.
The Mount Isa District can now boast a total of 25 qualified athletics officials as the twenty join the ranks of the five who had previously gained qualifications.
