Three years ago an opportunity arose for Jennifer Termine-Toth after her position within the corporate events industry became redundant.
“I didn't want to take the administration role they offered me, instead I saw the situation as an opportunity to start my own Event business,” Ms Termine-Toth said.
“I was giving 150 percent to a company and not being able to progress through the ranks, I was feeling frustrated because I felt stuck.”
Ms Termine-Toth is a firm believer of the adage if your not being given an opportunity then you create your own opportunities. So in the summer of 2015, her business, Andii Mihay Events, was established.
I wanted to challenge myself and become a leader in my field.

“I wanted to challenge myself and become a leader in my field.”
When Ms Termine-Toth commenced her business she only expected to secure five events within the first year.
“I told myself I’d be happy with five events but I ended up doing 70.”
With over 6 years' experience in the professional Events Industry Ms Termine-Toth strives to bring a sense of modern diversity to Mount Isa.
“I like to offer our clients originality, creativity and above all excellent products and service.”
A mix of events ranging from birthday parties, anniversaries, weddings and corporate events showed a need in the region for this type of business.
“After the the business took off in the first year, I decided to work harder, to merge into a more dedicated role so I designed a business plan.”
“A business plan gives direction, it forecasts income and expected expenses and I recommend anyone who is looking at starting up a business take an honest look at their goals.
“I developed a financial forecast which helps me to achieve a goal over a certain period of time. Through your accounting system you can keep track and when you reconcile each month, you can review where you’re heading and if you're on track,” Ms Termine-Toth.
Andii Mihay Events has expanded outside the Mount Isa region into Richmond and Cairns.
“Its an attribute to our level of service.”
“For people wanting to start running a small business, it’s a good idea to meet with mentors or people within the same industry.
“Introduce yourself, don’t view them as competitors and take on board their ideas and criticisms,” she said.
For a business to be successful you must be passionate about it and know when to relax.
“As a business owner I like to stay on top of things so I put in quite a few hours but I do have down-time.
“These are times when I take my daughter to the park or we do activities together, and as soon as I have a weekend free we go camping or adventuring. I’m all about life experience.”
The future of Andii Mihay Events looks promising as all the stabilising and developing of the founding years pays off.
“We are picking up a Hyundai van today, our first events van. I was using a trailer until now, but this is a much more professional option and that’s important in small business.”
