Senior Sergeant Renee Hanrahan said drink driving is one of the Fatal 5 for a reason.
Between Friday at Sunday, five individuals were intercepted and recorded a reading between 0.051 and 0.130 per cent Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC).
On Friday at 7:59pm a 51-year-old female was intercepted on Abel Smith Parade and recorded a reading of 0.051 percent BAC.
On Saturday at 3:10am a 23-year-old female was intercepted on Duchess Road and recorded a reading of 0.130 per cent BAC.
On Saturday at 8:15pm at 8:15pm a 41-year-old male was intercepted on Duchess Road and recorded a reading of 0.060 percent BAC.
On Saturday at 10pm a 17-year-old male was intercepted on Barkly Highway and recorded a reading of 0.085 percent BAC.
And on Sunday at 1am an 18-year-old male was intercepted on Miles Street and recorded a reading of 0.122 percent BAC.
“In 2016, drink driving contributed to 47 fatalities on Queensland roads, which is 1 in every 5 fatalities,” Sgt Hanrahan said.
“Concerningly, this figure was up on 2015, where drink driving accounted for 1 in every 4 fatalities.
“People are not listening to basic safety messages. It is very simple, if you are drinking, don’t drive,” she said.
Drink driving remains a major contributor to fatalities and injuries on Australian roads, even though an illegal Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) limit has been in place for over 25 years.
“With the local event season starting to see more social events underway, police are asking all drivers to always consider not only their safety, but the safety of all road users.”
“If you plan to drink, plan ahead. Don’t wait until you’re intoxicated to decide how to get home.
Organise a driver who will not be drinking or using any other drugs or make alternative transport plans, call a taxi or stay overnight,” she said.
All persons are required to appear in the Mount Isa Magistrates Court this month.
